#Medieval total war 1 byzantine infantry mod
I hope a mod fleshes them out more than CA did. besides them not having unique voices and the Emperor always refered to as "The King" due to using the Italian voices. Those are my biggest gripes with Byzantium. so why would it be a stretch in an alterative history that they could field Arqbusiers (or even just hand gunners)?
even in history they possesed cannons and hand gunners. I mean this game is all about changing history.
Yet the appeal of Roman Legion-style armies far outweigh their negatives in my mind.Ĭouple things I wish they had though are:ġ) Byzantine Infantry (and Lancers) had a shieldwall ability, since they're descended from Roman Legionaires it would be only natural.Ģ) They had the capablity to research gunpowder more progressively. They simply have nothing they can absord a cavalry charge of Feudal Knights or better. Couple that with increasingly powerful cavalry, Byzantium has serious problems stopping repeated cavalry charges. Compared to other nations spearmen, they're second bananas. Byzantine Spearmen are not 'excellent', they're medicore at best. (I know this has been a thread before but I haven't seen one like this in a while)īyzantium is probably my favorite faction, so I agree that they're great to play as.īyzantium's major weakness (until gunpowder period) is the lack of any counter-heavy cavalry.
So they don't necessarily have the most impetuous units, or gunpowder, but so what, combine the above paragraph, and add in the fact that they have disciplined units instead of impetuous, and that cancels out any negatives I think. They are so adaptable to any conditions, they can use a strong infantry based army, or use strong shock cavalry, they have excellent spear units, some of the best archers, trebizonds and byzantine guard archers, and they have phenomenal horse archers, and their armies can combine all of this into so many different ways. So right now I'm in the middle of a campaign with them, since I decided to give them a chance. I just never really wanted to give them a chance, I never liked them in mtw1, I always thought their units were kinda lacking. I've had this game since it's release and haven't really played a campaign with the byzantines past turn 10.
